STUDI PENGARUH SEPARASI MAGNETIK DAN SINTERING TERHADAP TRANSFORMASI FASA Fe DAN Ti PADA PASIR MINERAL PESISIR PANTAI ANOE ITAM, SABANG
Abstract

ABSTRACT
Studies have been conducted on the effects of sintering temperature on the hardness toward transformation of Fe and Ti compounds on mineral sand obtained from Itam Anoe Beach, Sabang, Aceh Province. The treatment variations performed are sintering temperature at 800ºC, 900ºC and 1000ºC, and the holding time for 2, 4 and 6 hours. The characterizations were done using XRF and XRD. The results of XRF test show that the pure mineral sands contained Fe and Ti 14.38% and 2.80% (% wt%), respectively, whereas after the magnetic separation the content of Fe and Ti increased to 83.51% and 7 , 25% (%wt), respectively. After the sintering process, the XRD data were analyzed with GSAS indicating that sintering time affects the weight fraction. This is shown in the temperature 800ºC where the compound of Fe3O4 and Fe2O3 decreased, while FeTiO3 increased with increasing sintering time. Another interesting thing, increasing the sintering temperature, the compound of FeTiO3 transformed into Fe2TiO5 and maximum weight fraction obtained at a sintering temperature of 1000ºC with sintering time of 4 hours produced weight fraction of 20.75%.
