PERANAN MODIFIER STRONTIUM TERHADAP FLUIDITAS DAN PERUBAHAN MORFOLOGI STRUKTUR SILIKON PADA MASTER ALLOY Al-7%Si DAN Al-11%Si

Abstract


A good castability is important to produce a complex shape with thick and thin in detail of aluminum casting part. One of factor which affecting to the castability of the molten metal on the casting process is fluidity value which represent the ability of molten metal to flow and penetrate on the mold. It is especially required to prevent the occuring of casting defect. In this research, fluidity value was examined by the vacuum suction unit. Aluminum alloys with Si content 7% and 11% were utilized. Another element was setted with lowest consentration therefore it can be negligible. The purpose of this research are to analyzed the effect of strontium modifier at the composition  0%, 0.015%, 0.03%, and 0.045% on that aluminum alloys to the fliuidity value and the microstructure, especially the formation of silicon phase. Molten metal was poured at several temperature, 660oC, 680oC, 700oC, and 720oC. The result shows that the optimum condition was achieved on the Al-7%Si with  0.03% stronstium modifier. It was displayed with highest fluidity value and produce finest granular  silicon structure and spead uniformly. Whereas Al-11%Si, the optimum condition was obtained on the addition 0.045% strontium modifier. The increasing pouring temperature was produced higher fluidity value without affecting the change of microstructure.
