Magnetic Behavior of Mg-1% Ni - 0.2% Pd Based Hydrogen Storage Materials

Abstract


The magnetic behavior of Mg+1%Ni+0.2% Pd hydrogen storage alloys has been investigated.
The sample prepared by reactive mechanical alloying (P7) with milling time 18
h, 61 h, 118 h, 150 h, 180 h, and 220 h in H2 atmosphere at 7 bar. The structural characterization
was carried out by X-ray diffraction with Co-Ka radiation. Magnetization
was measured using superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer
at fields up to 5 T and the temperature between 1.7 and 293 K. It showed that
the magnetization decreases with the increasing milling time. The higher magnetization
was at 18 hours milling time while the lower at 220 hours. It can be concluded that the
longer milling time, the lower magnetization.
