Abstract


The economic growth in urban area may affect lifestyle which will increase the energy demand.
Electricity is a kind of energy that is produced by burning the fossil fuel. Fossil fuel as the main source of
energy emitts some pollutants to the ambient, two of them are SO2 and NO2 gases. In this research the
analysis of the optimum amount of electricity consume for Jakarta province is done by using the goal
programming methods. GAMS (General Algebraic Modelling System) software is utilized to analyse the
degree of wasting electricity in Jakarta Province by predicting the optimum amount of electricity required.
The result of this research is the optimum amount of electricity for Jakarta only 39.18 percent of the electricity
production in 2006, with abatement cost to reduce SO2 and NO2 gases is 1.4 million rupiahs. To save the
electricity consumption it is suggested to develop public policies based on the economic and environmental
concerns, beside the social interest.
