PENGOMPOSAN DAUN KOPI DENGAN Rhizobium japonicum DAN KARAKTERISASI HOPANOID YANG DIHASILKAN

Abstract


This study was carried out to investigate the composting of coffee leaves using Rhizobium japonicum, with the main
interest to study whether the bacteria could produce hopanoid compound which is known as an indicator of soil fertility.
As a control, composting of sample without the usage of bacteria was carried out in a similar way. The results indicated
that the mature compost was achieved after 90 days of composting, as indicated by the C/N ratio and E4/E6 ratio of the
water soluble compost. Characterization of the samples using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry revealed that
hopanoid compound (urs-12-ene) was produced in the compost form the experiment with R. japonicum, while in the
control no such compound observed. It is then clear that the hopanoid compound identified was resulted from the
activity of the R. japonicum used.
