KEANEKARAGAMAN DAN POPULASI KUMBANG PADA BERBAGAI SISTEM PENGGUNAAN LAHAN DI BUKIT RIGIS SUMBERJAYA, LAMPUNG BARAT

Abstract


This study was aimed at documenting the effect of agricultural intensification on beetle diversity and population density.
Litter beetles were inventoried during the rainy season of 2004 in the Rigis Hill-Sumberjaya area, West Lampung. Litter
was collected using winkler method from 35 sample points across seven land use types of increasing intensity, i.e.
undisturbed forest, disturbed forest, shrub, polyculture coffee, monoculture coffee, food crop, and vegetable crop.
Results showed that overall we found 59 families and subfamilies of litter beetles with 4 feeding groups (herbivores,
predators, scavengers, and fungivores). The beetle diversity and population density decreased along increasing gradient
of land use intensification. The reducing effect of land use intensity was more apparent on the predatory, scavenging,
and fungus eating beetles than on the herbivorous beetles.
