ECOLOGY’S ROLE OF DUNG BEETLES AS SECONDARY SEED DISPERSER IN LAMPUNG UNIVERSITY

Abstract


The ecology’s role of dung beetle s as secondary seed disperser had been identified in Lampung University, Bandar Lampung, Indonesia, March 2012. Lampung University area is cover by green trees and arboretum around 30%. It is the important habitat for dung beetle s. Research had been investigated in five plots of area. Traps method for capture dung beetle s and literatures study where done for analyzes data. It was found that the characteristic of dung beetle s as the secondary seed disperser in Lampung University. From the three type of dung beetle s (Tunneller, Dweller, Roller) had been found Tunneller type in Lampung University as Scarabaeid, consist of Apodhius marginellus (2), Onthophagus sp 1 (119), Onthophagus sp 2 (5), and Pachylister chinensis (13).
